Rockvale is Excited to be a BYOD School this year!!

Rockvale Elementary Schools is pleased to be able to offer our students access to computer technology, including access to the Internet as well as applications and information technology network. We are dedicated to access and support of appropriate technology which unlocks our potential and connects us locally and globally. We understand that our students are digital natives and live in a world where information creation and consumption is constantly occurring. We envision a learning environment where technology is a part of us, not apart from us. We currently have eight BYOD classrooms in grades 3-5.  Students in these classrooms have agreed to Student Code of Behavior and students and parents have signed consent forms (attached to this article).

We believe that the tremendous value of technology and the information technology network as an educational resource far outweigh the potential risks. We will leverage existing and emerging technology as a means to learn and thrive in the 21st Century and prepare our students for success toward their goals in the competitive global, electronic age. We feel that access to the tools and resources of a world-wide network and understanding when and how these tools are appropriately and effectively used are imperative in each student’s education.

4th grade BYOD teacher Mrs. Smith: "BYOD has enhanced my lessons by offering new, interesting ways to review information (Quizlet, Quizizz, Kahoot). It has also enhanced my informational lessons by offering practice using current events through NewsELA. Students are able to read information that they are interested in and apply their informational skills. They get excited to read the articles assigned to them. I feel that using devices have added a "fun" aspect to learning for the kids. They are proud to use their device therefore they are always trying their best.  They also enjoy the competitive aspect of the different review games. Not only has BYOD enhanced the learning, but it has also enhanced the classroom community."

5th grade BYOD teacher Mrs. Clark: "I have found their devices help them be accountable for their work in the classroom.  As I am working with small groups, they can use things such as QR codes to self check.  They enjoy being in control of their learning."

5th grade BYOD teacher Mrs. Griffin: "Students are so excited about learning when they get to use their devices. Watching them cooperate, work together and become a team while playing Quizlet live is awesome"
