At Home Learning Ideas

A few skills that can be practiced and reviewed at home for additional support:
*Counting to 50 by ones (in the car, walking outside, walking up/down steps)
*Counting out objects up to 10 *can use Goldfish, Cereal pieces, blocks...(up to 25 after Winter Break)
*Matching capital and lowercase letters (using flash cards) and stating their sounds
*Using letter cards (uppercase and lowercase) for Memory Game pieces
*Use Legos to create/make letters
*Write letters or sight words on cards and place them in places around your home.  When your child walks by the card, they must read it
*Place a small amount of shaving cream on a tray (or plate) and have your child practice writing letters (or numbers) in the shaving cream
*Use magnetic letters on the refrigerator to build sight words or matching uppercase to lowercase if available
*Create flash cards for sight words (I, the, in - this list will grow throughout the year)
*Coloring (helps with fine motor skills)
*Creating letters or numbers with Play-Doh (helps with fine motor skills)
*Read a book to your child and ask about the characters and setting in the book and ask your child to retell the story.
*Have your child pick up beads, cereal pieces... with tweezers or clothespins (helps with fine motor)
