Have a child starting Kindergarten in the Fall of 2018???

FAQ Kindergarten Registration

Welcome to Kindergarten!  We’ve set this up in FAQ format to help answer your questions concerning the registration process.

When is kindergarten registration?
May 5th - 11th

How old must my child be to attend Kindergarten or Kindergarten Readiness?
Your child must be five years old on or before August 15, 2018.

Who is Kindergarten Readiness designed to accommodate?
Eligibility is determined by Kindergarten screening/testing. Candidates must be zoned for Rockvale Elementary School.  It’s designed to allow these children time to become more mature.

Does my child need to attend registration with me?
YES!  Your child will be tested at that time.  (Please allow 1 hour)

What do I need to bring with me to registration?
Birth certificate, proof of residency (utility bill only), social security card (optional), shot record and physical on a TN form.  If the shots/physical are not complete, please bring proof of scheduled appointment.  If you are living with someone else, an affidavit must be completed along with 2 proofs of residency (utility bills) by home owner, plus have it signed by a notary.

When is Phase-in and what is phase-in?
Check back closer to time for full details. Your child has the chance to attend a full day of school with half of their class.  This allows them time to get to know their teacher and learn the names of some of their classmates along with the daily routine.

When is the first full day of school?
Check back closer to time for full details.

What are bell times?
7:40 am-2:40 pm, students are due in their seats at 7:40 am.

Pre-school Information
Rockvale Elementary has an integrated pre-school which serves special needs students in Rutherford County.  These are students with both with physical and mental disabilities.  Included in the classroom are three typical model students, these students are chosen each year for their strong verbal skills.  If your child would like to be considered for a typical model position please look for information and screening in March for the up-coming year.  This screening is free and available at Barfield Elementary and Stewartsboro Elementary.  There is a deadline to submit applications for consideration in early March prior to screening.  If you have additional questions please contact the Rutherford County School Board, Special Ed Department.
